The Board of the American Branch is delighted to announce that it has approved a grant to the A Voice For Richard III project, led by Yvonne Morley-Chisholm of Your Voice Box. This groundbreaking project captured international attention when a team of experts from linguistics, anatomy, forensic psychology, technology, and medieval history, produced a “living”  digital avatar of Richard III who spoke and enunciated in authentic late 15th century English style.  Go here to see a video or read about NPR’s report on the project.

The grant will support the next phase, expected to be completed Summer 2026, in which the avatar of Richard III will recite a letter he wrote to his mother in English.  The American Branch is proud to be a sponsor of this leg of progress, and believes the methodology developed by this project will inspire the vocal reconstruction of other people from our medieval past.
