This year’s Annual General Meeting (AGM for short) will feature the presence of members (in medieval garb and battle gear) of The Lincoln Companie, a group that does a recreation of a military encampment at the Battle of Barnet, under Richard of Gloucester. They regularly perform and demonstrate at the Gainesville (FL) Medieval Fair. They will be with us for the AGM. PROGRAM: Friday will consist of registration (4:00pm) and an evening social with pizza and a cash bar as you meet and greet Ricardian friends and browse the silent auction and sales tables. We also will be showing a video of “The Trial of Richard III”—a mock trial conducted by the Indiana University School of Law in 1996 with Chief Justice William Rehnquist of the Supreme Court as the lead magistrate. Saturday: after a continental breakfast (included) we will have several speakers and/or workshops on a variety on subjects of Ricardian interest. Workshops planned include discussion of re-enactment of the Battle of Barnet, the Medieval Times entertainment concept, medieval music, and the history of Oxford University with emphasis on the reigns of Edward IV and Richard III. (Please note that not all workshops have been confirmed and are subject to change.) After lunch (included), Professor Peter Hancock of Central Florida University, a Ricardian scholar who is well known to our membership, will deliver the keynote address. Our keynote speaker will be followed by the general business meeting. We have many important issues to discuss that impact on the future of our organization. Saturday evening will commence with a social hour (cash bar) followed by a festive banquet with entertainment in the grand medieval style. On Sunday morning we will have the Morris McGee Memorial Breakfast. This will be followed by another speaker/program of Ricardian interest and closing remarks by the Chair. There will be an optional program for those who wish to remain an extra night at the hotel. We plan to take a group of Ricardians to nearby Kissimmee, FL Sunday afternoon and attend a dinner show at the original Medieval Times. The group rate will be $50 per person for the tour of the medieval village, banquet, two drinks (beer or soft) and the tournament. The Orlando area has much to offer for those who want to extend their stay, including nearby Medieval Times as well as Disney World, Universal Studios, Sea World, etc. |
